UNIVERSITY of Zambia Lecturer Dr Charity Musamba says decision makers, especially politicians, are to blame for the rise in unplanned settlements in Lusaka. Meanwhile, Dr Musamba says the intention of Local Government and Rural Development Minister Garry Nkombo to relocate citizens from shanty compounds of Lusaka will require long-term commitment and adequate preparation. Last week, Nkombo announced government’s intention to relocate citizens from three unplanned settlements in Lusaka to the outskirts of the city in a bid to address poor sanitation which was causing cholera.
