THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has denied bail to former Judiciary Stores officer Precious Nkunika and her mother, pending their appeal against five- and two-year sentences, respectively. Nkunika was recently sentenced to five years for stealing a baby at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), while her mother, Grace Siska, received a two-year sentence for harbouring the stolen baby. However, the duo appealed to the Lusaka High Court against both the convictions and sentences. They also applied for bail pending appeal. State Advocate Victor Choongo, who objected to the bail application pending appeal, argued that the said appeal had no likelihood of succeeding. “A quick perusal of the grounds of appeal show that there is no likelihood of success of this appeal....
