YESTERDAY we disagreed with critics of the UPND government who claim that the party in power has been using a tribal lens to target individuals from the former ruling party who must serve jail time. We explained that the former ruling party concentrated its government appointments in particular regions, and as a consequence, those who enjoyed fast money from those regions are now moving at the same fast pace towards prison. In saying this, we are not here to endorse persecution. We must hasten to state our reservation concerning some of the arrests, detentions, and ‘prosecutions’ that we are seeing. For the avoidance of doubt, we don’t refer here to instances of overzealous police actions, clear or veiled state overreach....
