THE Zambia Premier League (ZPL) has threatened to punish Power Dynamos FC over the alleged hooliganism behaviour exhibited by Power Dynamos fans during the Kitwe derby played on December 7 at Levy Mwanwasa Stadium in Ndola.
ZPL Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Joseph Chimpampwe said the league’s governing body had commenced investigations into the conduct of Power Dynamos Football Club’s supporters during the Kitwe derby which ended 2-1 in favor of Nkana.
It is alleged that when Nkana FC scored their first goal in the 17th minute of the derby, several missiles were thrown onto the pitch by individuals identified as Power Dynamos fans.
The unruly behaviour is said to have disrupted the match proceedings and posed a significant risk to the safety of players, match officials, and other spectators, and brought the game into disrepute.
In a letter to Power Dynamos, Chimpampwe said the behaviour and actions of the club’s alleged fans were completely unacceptable and came under the offences stipulated in Article 67 (3) of the 2021 FAZ Disciplinary Code.
He noted that clubs were held strictly liable for the behaviour of their supporters, in accordance with Article 67 (2) of the FAZ Disciplinary Code of 2021.
“At the conclusion of our investigation and with reference to its findings, charges will be preferred against Power Dynamos Football Club based on the findings and punitive fines and other administrative penalties may be imposed following the conclusion of the disciplinary process,” Chimpapmwe wrote.
Power Dynamos was challenged to provide a detailed report on the incident, including measures which were taken by the club to control fan behaviour during the match.
“Any actions or statements made by club representatives to de-escalate the situation. Kindly submit your report no later than close of business of December 20, 2025,” Chimpampwe wrote.
He warned that failure to comply may result in further disciplinary action against the Kitwe giants.
“We would like to reiterate our commitment to upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring a safe and fair environment for all stakeholders. We trust that Power Dynamos FC will take this matter with the seriousness it deserves and implement the necessary measures to prevent a recurrence,” stated Chimpampwe.
