POLICE yesterday released former PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri, a day after a letter from Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri indicating that there was no evidence to prosecute her on a charge of aggravated robbery, went viral. Meanwhile, the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has commended the DPP’s decision not to recommend prosecution of Phiri and others arrested during the Kawambwa by-election campaigns, stating that criminal law must not be abused to persecute political opponents or those with divergent views.
