IMF Head of Mission for Zambia Edward Gemayel says initial discussions for the IMF Extended Credit Facility successor programme for Zambia could begin as early as late April. However, Gemayel says despite a positive economic outlook for Zambia, early signs of slippage had begun to emerge related to among others, election‑related expenditures with regards to fiscal pressures. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team, led by Gemayel, was in the country from February 26 to March 4, 2026, as part of the Fund’s regular engagement with the Zambian authorities and other stakeholders.
