A 27-YEAR-OLD police officer has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour for manslaughter. In this matter, Pythias Mvula was accused of causing the death of Boniface Daka. It was alleged that Mvula beat up a suspect who was in police custody to a point where he became unconscious. Upon his admission of guilt, Lusaka High Court Judge Mwaka Ngoma convicted Mvula of manslaughter, contrary to Section 199 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
