THE Human Rights Commission (HRC) says it is increasingly concerned about the use of hate speech, threatening and inflammatory rhetoric and online abuse during campaigns and on social media platforms. HRC Chairperson Dr Pamela Sambo says the Commission is also concerned by the continued low representation of women across all levels of elective office in the upcoming elections, stating that out of the 973 parliamentary candidates, only 122 are women. Meanwhile, Dr Sambo adds that the Commission considered 105 allegations of human rights violations and abuses during the Cases Review Meeting, with 62 cases resolved and the remaining 43 cases under active consideration.
