A businessman has sued Itezh-tezhi UPND member of parliament Herbert Shabula in the Lusaka High Court for allegedly failing to pay K180,000 after purchasing a Range Rover Vogue, motor vehicle.

Mike Likando Matakala has sued Shabula seeking an order for the lawmaker to pay the said sum, interest, costs and any other relief.

In a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court principal registry, Matakala stated that he was at all material times, a business executive and resident of Lusaka.

He added that Shabula was at all material times a politician and current member of parliament for Itezhi-tezhi constituency in Central province.

Matakala stated that on June 7, 2018, he sold his motor vehicle, a Range Rover Vogue which is black in color and bearing the registration number BAA 3340, to the lawmaker at K180,000 to be paid on July 30, 2018.

He claimed that Shabula had failed or neglected to settle the amount involved as agreed despite repeated efforts to get him to do so.

Matakala added that he instructed his lawyers from Messrs Mutema Chambers to collect the money from Shabula but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has sued Shared Resources Zambia Limited and another in the Lusaka High Court, seeking an order for payment of US$110,852 for purchase of over 800 metric tonnes of white maize.

FRA which has also sued William Tamba, wants the court to order the defendants to pay it US$110,852.21 or alternatively, damages for concession, interest at the prevailing commercial bank lending rates and any other relief the court may deem fit.

In a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, FRA explained that by written contracts dated August 8, 2018 and November 28, 2018, the defendants agreed to buy 6.306 metric tonnes grade “a” Zambian white maize from FRA at a price of US$130, per metric tone.

It stated that in the course of executing the contracts, the defendants paid FRA for 1399.44 metric tonnes of maize worth US$181,927.79 but proceeded to collect 2,252.15 metric tones valued at US$292, 780.

FRA added that this was an over collection by 851.71 metric tones valued at US$110,852.21.

It stated that as a result, it was claiming the sum of US$110,852.21.
