A 53-year-old man of Luanshya has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for indecently assaulting eight girls below the age of 12.
In this matter, Daimon Chansa, a security guard, was charged with eight counts of indecent assault.
Allegations were that he touched the girls’ buttocks and asked them to fondle his manhood.
He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in each count to run concurrently, meaning he will only serve 20 years imprisonment with hard labour.
It was alleged that between July 2019 and June 2020, Chansa abused the girls aged between eight years and 12 years.
Chansa would invite the children to an incomplete building where he asked each one of them to touch his manhood by way of rubbing it until sperms came out.
Chansa would then touch the girls buttocks as a reward for satisfying him for reaching orgasm.
At the police station, Chansa admitted the offences, saying he liked it when young girls touched and rubbed his manhood.
During plea at the Luanshya Magistrates’ Court, Chansa pleaded guilty to the charges.
In his mitigation at the High Court through his lawyer, Chansa said he was repentant and remorseful.
However, Ndola High Court Judge Mary Mulanda sentenced him to 20 years in each count.
She said although she considered his mitigation, she had to impose the sentence to deter would be offenders.
“I have heard your mitigation that you are a first offender and pleaded guilty without wasting the court’s time. In this circumstance, I sentence you to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour in respect of each count, which will rum concurrently,” said Judge Mulanda.
