TWO teachers have been dragged to the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining over K100,000 from various people on pretext that they had a job vacancy for a teacher, when in fact not.

Karen Penlop Kalimanyabo, 30 and Manaseh Kalume, 43 are facing five counts of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

In the first count, it is alleged that between April 1 and 30, 2020 in Lusaka, Kalimanyabo and Kalume jointly and whilst acting together with intent to deceive and defraud, obtained money amounting to K16,500 from Lindila Kashona by falsely pretending that they had a job vacancy for a teacher when in fact not.

In the second count, it is alleged that between the same dates, the duo jointly and whilst acting together, with intent to deceive and defraud obtained money amounting to K24,000 from Memory Chikwamba by falsely pretending that they had a job vacancy for a teacher when in fact not.

In the third count, it is alleged that between July 1 and 30, 2020 in Lusaka, the two jointly and whilst acting together, with intent to deceive and defraud obtained money amounting to K18,000 from Mahongo Musese by falsely pretending that they had a job vacancy when in fact not.

In count four, the two are alleged to have between the same dates obtained money amounting to K14,000 from Chali Chishimba by falsely pretending that they had a job vacancy for a teacher when in fact not.

In the fifth count, the two are alleged to have between June 1 and 30, 2020, jointly and whilst acting together and with intent to deceive and defraud, obtained money amounting to K39,000 from Ngosa Hilda by falsely pretending that they had a job vacancy for a teacher when in fact not.

The accused persons are yet to take plea.
