THE Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries says it has completed the slaughtering of all cattle infected with Contagious Bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) in Chisamba and Chibombo districts, spending about K7.2 million in the process. In an interview, acting director for veterinary services Dr Geoffrey Muuka said a total of 11,171 diseased cattle were slaughtered. “All the infected animals have been slaughtered completely. What we are doing now is surveillance just to make sure that no infected animals were left out. By the end [of the exercise] 11,171 cattle was slaughtered. If I add all the works undertaken, the money used to contain the outbreak comes to about K7.2 million, which involves reagents, materials used in the laboratories, fuels and human resources...
