ECONOMIST Trevor Hambayi says ZRA’s intention to tax business mobile money transactions will discourage growth of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector. Hambayi says SMEs will find a way to avoid paying more tax because they make very little money. Recently, ZRA Board Chairperson Caleb Fundanga disclosed that the authority was trying to find ways of how to capture tax on business mobile money transactions. Fundanga said people found a smart way of evading tax payments by opting to use mobile money accounts instead of point-of-sale (POS) payment machines.
