The state has informed the Kitwe Magistrates’ Court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has not yet given instructions to commit the 19 members of the notorious Tokota gang to the High Court.

A state prosecutor told magistrate Yvonne Nalomba, Monday, that the case was not yet ready to proceed to the High Court when members of the gang appeared for mention.

Magistrate Nalomba then adjourned the Matter to June 11, 2018 for mention and all the suspects will remain in custody at Kamfinsa Correctional facility.

The 19 are facing three criminal charges; acts with intent to cause harm in count one, unlawful wounding in the second count and kidnapping in the last count. 

The 19 were arrested when a video went viral on social media showing them torturing a Kitwe resident.

Meanwhile, three members of the ‘Tokota Boys’ have pleaded not guilty to committing rape.

The three were recently nabbed for assault and took plea before Magistrate Nalomba. 

Richard Siame 21, Teddy Chilufya and Chris Kalenga both aged 20 are each facing one count of rape.

Particulars of the offence are that the three, on February 2, 2018 in the Kitwe District of the republic of Zambia had unlawful carnal knowledge of a named woman without her consent.

All the three pleaded not guilty to the rape charge and Magistrate Nalomba also adjourned the matter to June 11 for commencement of trial.
