FORMER deputy Inspector General of Police Charity Katanga has asked the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court to grant her bail pending her appeal to the High Court. Katanga was on Monday convicted and sentenced to three years simple imprisonment for being in possession of 10 Higer buses suspected to be proceeds of crime. Being dissatisfied with the court’s decision, Katanga says she now intends to appeal to the High Court against both the conviction and sentence. In a notice of intention to appeal, Katanga stated through her lawyers, Malisa and Partners Legal Practitioners, that Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili erred in law and fact when he found that there was reasonable suspicion that the 10 Higer buses were proceeds of crime.
