DESPITE being granted K80,000 bail by the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, Archbishop Alick Banda spent the night at Lusaka Central Prison, commonly known as Chimbokaila, after pleading not guilty to possessing a Toyota Hilux suspected to have been unlawfully obtained. Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri indicated that Archbishop Banda had remained detained because he may have met his bail conditions late. Earlier, Lusaka Magistrate Mwandu Nakazwe granted Archbishop Banda K80,000 bail in his own recognisance, with three working sureties, each bound in the sum of K50,000 in their own recognisance.
