Zesco United beat Le Messager Ngozi of Burundi 2-0 in their opening match of the 2017 Confederation Cup first round,first leg match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Goals from striker Jackson Mwanza and Kondwani Mtonga gave coach Zlatko Krmpotic his debut competitive win since his appointment in February.
Mwanza put Zesco ahead in the 33rd minute to see the home side take a 1-0 halftime lead.
Idris Mbombo then saw his 68th minute goal disallowed for offside by Zimbabwean referee Norman Matembere.
But Zesco put the result beyond doubt in the 75th minute when Mtonga fired in  from close range to connect John Chingandu’s corner.
The two sides meet in the final leg on March 18 in Bujumbura to decide who goes through to the pre-group stage in April.
