Zesco United have gone top of the FAZ Super Division table after beating City of Lusaka 1-0 away at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka this afternoon.

The result saw Zesco rise from 3rd to 1st position, displacing Lumwana Radiants to 2nd place only on goal difference after joining the latter on 14 points.

Lumwana, though, could reclaim that spot with a win or draw on Saturday at home against Nchanga Rangers.

Striker Jesse Were scored Zesco’s winner in the 77th minute after some good work by his attacking partner Idris Mbombo.

The goal was Were’s second in as many games after scoring in last Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Smouha of Egypt in a 2017 CAF Confederation Cup Group C opening match in Ndola

City on the other hand suffered their second successive league loss after also going down by the same margin away at Nkana and they stay put in 13th place.

Meanwhile, Zesco now head to Sudan ahead of next Wednesday’s’ second Group C match against Al Hilal Obeid.
