FAZ says it will consider bidding for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations despite its recent decision to withdraw as hosts of the 2019 Under-23 AFCON.

Zambia withdrew as hosts of the Africa Zone Olympic qualifying tournament due to financial reasons.

“In light of this development, FAZ wishes to inform all stakeholders and the public that despite withdrawing from hosting the 2019 Africa Cup edition, the country still stands on firm ground to host future Africa Cup tournaments,” FAZ spokesperson Desmond Katongo said.

“FAZ together with its major stakeholder, the Zambian Government will consider bidding for the 2021 senior Africa Cup of Nations. The Association is further encouraged by CAF’s decision to increase the Africa Cup participating countries from 16 to 24 teams.”
