THE Chelstone Local Court has dismissed a case in which a Mtendere East man wanted his colleague jailed for luring his wife into a “Chokolo” affair, even before his death. Chokolo is a traditional widow inheritance practice among some Bantu communities in Malawi and Zambia, where a widow is married by her deceased husband’s brother or relative to maintain family ties and care for the children. The court said that any man may propose to a married woman, but it is her responsibility to decide whether to accept or reject the proposal.
