Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso says two police officers in Mazabuka district have been arrested after they allegedly shot dead two cattle thieves.

In an interview, Kapeso narrated that a riot almost erupted when relatives to the deceased, together with a mob resisted when police were taking the bodies to the mortuary.

“Two police officers who are already in police custody shot and killed two people after they followed a report of cattle theft. This was after the two suspects refused to corporate with the officers which forced them to shoot. The bodies of the two suspects have been taken to Mazabuka General Hospital. But when they were about to be taken to the mortuary, we almost had a riot because the relatives and the mob were stopping the police from taking the bodies to the mortuary. So we had to use force and threw some tear smoke for us to clear the way and take the bodies to the mortuary. But the situation is already under control,” said Kapeso.
