The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a 42 year old Nigerian Prophet Isaac Julius Amata, for trafficking in 26.29kg of Ephedrine.

Ephedrine is a medication and stimulant often used to prevent low blood pressure during spinal anaesthesia. It has also been used for asthma, narcolepsy, and obesity. However, it is not the preferred treatment and is considered a narcotic.

Meanwhile DEC through the Canine Unit in Nakonde has arrested three women and one man for trafficking in over 200kg of Miraa.

In a statement to News Diggers! On Thursday, DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo stated that the Nigerian Prophet was apprehended at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport upon arrival from Nigeria.

“The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested a 42 year-old Nigerian Prophet for trafficking in Ephedrine. Isaac Julius Amata, 42, a Prophet of Delta Ibu State in Nigeria, has been arrested for trafficking in 26.29kg of Ephedrine. The suspect was apprehended at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport upon arrival from Nigeria aboard South African Airways flight,” she stated.

And Katongo revealed that four people were arrested in Nakonde, Muchinga province for trafficking in over 200kg of Miraa.

“Meanwhile, the Commission through the Canine Unit in Nakonde, Muchinga Province has arrested four people for trafficking in over 200kg of Miraa. Those arrested include Joyce Namumba, 45, of Bulongo village for trafficking in 70 bundles of Miraa, Ireen Mwila, 54, a housewife of Katozi village for trafficking in 68 bundles of Miraa, Emeldah Nalungwe, 45, a business woman of Ntindi village for trafficking in 64 bundles of Miraa and Elvis Mwamusoka Simumba, 34, a businessman of Ntindi village for trafficking in 70 bundles of Miraa,” she stated.

Katongo stated that the suspects were currently in police custody and would appear in court soon.
