Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has revealed that the province received 9,177 applications when her division has only been mandated to take up 350 recruits.

Addressing Journalists at her officer, Wednesday, Katanga said of the 9,177, 5,083 were rejected because they did not meet the required standards.

“We received 9,177 applications for the police recruitment. Out of this number 5,083 were rejected because they did not meet the required standards. 4,094 were shortlisted and will be subjected to physical interviews on Tuesday, 31st July, 2018. Out of this 4,094 shortlisted, we only need 350 that is what the number will be reduced to,” Katanga said.

She said 98 percent of the applications came from within the Copperbelt Province whilst others came from Lusaka.
