BANK of Zambia Governor Dr Denny Kalyalya says ensuring his office has security of tenure is a progressive move as it guarantees freedom in the execution of his duties. President Hakainde Hichilema recently signed into law new legislation that will protect the Central Bank Governor and his deputies from being fired without valid reasons. In an interview, Dr Kalyalya hoped that the decision would be respected. “I mean, that has always been the desire to have security of tenure to the Governor and the Deputy Governor. So, that has now been granted under the new act. But you recall also the Constitution was providing for [it] but we are slow in amending the act to align it with the Constitution....
