ENERGY Minister Peter Kapala says Zesco reduced its backlog of connections to 9,000 from 67,000 as at March 7, 2023. Issuing a Ministerial Statement in the National Assembly, Friday, Kapala said Zesco had to borrow about US$108 million in order to deal with the backlog. “As of December 2022, we had a backlog of 67,000 connections outstanding. So Zesco had to borrow $108 million in order to deal with the backlog. I am sure all members of parliament here understand the indebtedness of Zesco here and we should not encourage that this debt keeps on increasing.
