SOCIALIST Party leader Fred M’membe has accused the Direct of Public Prosecutions of shielding Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba from prosecution. On Monday, DPP Gilbert Phiri denied Dr M’membe permission to prosecute Musamba for alleged defamation of character, citing public interest considerations. The DPP’s letter to Dr M’membe went viral a few hours after Musamba appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court in a matter in which Dr M’membe lodged a complaint against him for defamation of character. The matter was, however, adjourned to September 15 after a state prosecutor informed the court that consent had not yet been granted by the DPP to prosecute the case.
