A 20-YEAR-OLD woman of Mtendere township in Lusaka has admitted to having deserted her three children and leaving them with no means of support. Maureen Makai, a housewife, is facing three counts of desertion contrary to the law. It is alleged that on August 31, 2022 , Makai being the mother and having lawful care of three children aged 3, 6 and 7, willfully and without lawful or reasonable cause deserted and left the said children without means of support. When the case came up yesterday before Lusaka Magistrate Mbuywana Sinvula, the accused pleaded guilty. After plea, Magistrate Sinvula adjourned the case to today for reading of facts and sentencing.
