A DRIVER and two passengers have died on the spot, while five other passengers have been admitted to Pemba Mini Hospital after the Toyota Wish they were in was involved in an accident.
In a statement, Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the accident, stating that it happened on December 24, after the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to over speeding.
“Pemba Police Station has recorded one Fatal RTA which occurred today December 24, at around 19:00 hours along Great North Road about 15 kms south of Pemba town. Involved was Lubinda Mwimba, aged 30, of Manungu Compound, Monze, who was driving a motor vehicle namely Toyota Wish bearing registration number AMB 1657 from the direction of south to north. The driver sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Also involved were seven passengers on board the same motor vehicle and out of the total number, two passengers namely, Charity Sonjini, aged 42, of Hill side Mazabuka and Mulozi Sifanu Mabaza, aged 43, also of Hill side Mazabuka sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot,” said Namalongo.
“Five other passengers, namely, Lameck Chikale, 36, of Manungu compound sustained a suspected fractured right arm, while Kraus Kalima, 34, of Hill side compound Mazabuka sustained a deep cut on the right arm and a painful neck, and that Sitali Inabao, 35, of KLB Mazabuka complained of painful left ribs and cuts on the left arm. Florence Mutinta, aged 39, of Hill side Mazabuka sustained a deep cut in the head and chin, Suzana Malama, aged 40, also of Hill side Mazabuka complained of painful ribs and are all currently admitted at Pemba Mini Hospital. The accident happened when the driver lost control due to excessive speed, causing the vehicle to veer off the road to the left side and eventually overturn”.
