A CONSORTIUM of civil society organisations has called on Zambia Army Commander Geoffrey Zyeele to withdraw his remarks and to assure the nation that the Army will not be deployed for domestic law enforcement during the August polls. The CSOs say General Zyeele’s comments on enforcing order during elections pose a threat to democracy and to the civil liberties of Zambians. Last week, during a courtesy call on Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Paul Thole in Chipata, General Zyeele said the defence force would not allow mischief before, during and after elections. “We will not allow mischief before, during and after elections.
