PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema’s Political Advisor Levy Ngoma says Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu are “hallucinating” if they think they can win the August election, stating that it’s impossible.

He adds that people are attending NRPUP rallies because they wanted to be entertained by the “malukula”, in an apparent reference to Zulu.

On Tuesday, while speaking at a rally in Solwezi, Zulu, who is Mundubile’s running mate, said NRPUP had gone with blankets and moved in UPND’s bedroom of North-Western Province.

Commenting on this in an interview, Wednesday, Ngoma said NRPUP has not taken over North-Western Province, adding that the crowds that the party is pulling was not a sign of approval from voters.

“Makebi Zulu is hallucinating, that is pure hallucination. Those are jokers. The message from the current government is immeasurable, you can’t compare. These guys are, just like I’ve said, maybe even the term jokers is a lesser term. They are hallucinating to think that they can move into UPND’s bedroom of North-Western Province. Not just North-Western Province, to think that at the end of the day they are winning this election, no, impossible. What message of hope do they have for the Zambian people? Have you ever heard that when people hear the term malukula, every Jim and Jack would be very interested to see who this malukula is because they hear things?” Ngoma wondered.

“So, when people want to go and see somebody of a mischievous character to entertain them, what do you expect? They have heard that here is a malukula, they want to have a glimpse of who this malukula is. They should wait, as the day for reckoning is coming, we are just only a few days before the polls. So, there’s nothing like they have taken over, taken over where? I’ve just prescribed to you what is prompting people to go and see them, so we shouldn’t be surprised. It does not entail that, that is a sign of approval, no”.

Ngoma highlighted that Zulu and Mundubile want to take citizens back to the PF days where violence and criminality were the order of the day.

“People are sometimes scared, sometimes, just with the same measure, curious, to see people who want to return them to the old ways of the PF. What is it that was the order of the day under that leadership? Wasn’t criminality the order of the day? Wasn’t violence the order of the day? This is less than two weeks before elections, you can look at the political environment now, you can hardly sometimes feel that there’s a general election happening because of the peace that is prevailing, the calmness that is prevailing, and this calmness only gets to be disturbed by the same characters who, at every juncture, would want to instil fear in people,” said Ngoma.

“You [want to] take people to days when inflation was astronomically high. You [want to] take people to days when parents could not afford to send their children to school. You want to take people to days where students at universities could not afford to have a meal because government then was so insensitive and evil in their approach that they had to take away meal allowances. Would you want to take people back to a time when the kwacha was irregular? Where the country’s foreign reserves had been chopped badly? They don’t have a message, falsehoods, would you want to take back your country where it was laziness all over? People were not encouraged to be productive”.
