ZESCO says it is concerned with the rising number of young people and juveniles being convicted for stealing and damaging electricity infrastructure. This follows the conviction of two juveniles aged 16 and 17 in Mpulungu Subordinate court for malicious damage to property and theft after being apprehended cutting a service cable valued at K1,280 in Muzabwela Compound. The Ndola Subordinate Court also convicted Hastings Chisha Sakala, aged 25, and Shadreck Sakala, aged 21 to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to stealing two transformer channels valued at K4,548.54.
