PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has completed a nationwide campaign tour covering all 116 districts and addressing 127 rallies ahead of Thursday’s August 13 general election.
The President launched his campaign on June 28 with a rally outside the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka before he embarked on a nationwide tour that has taken him to all 10 provinces.
According to State House Media, after launching his campaign on June 28, President Hichilema began his nationwide tour in North-Western Province, holding rallies in Mwinilunga and Solwezi on July 1, followed by Chavuma, Zambezi, Kabompo and Kalumbila on July 2.
“As he seeks re-election this Thursday, August 13, to serve a second five-year term of office, President Hakainde Hichilema has traversed all the 116 districts of Zambia, addressing 127 public rallies so far. The first rally President Hichilema addressed during this campaign period was on June 28 this year outside National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. After that launch rally, the President has been to all the 10 provinces where he has been addressing rallies. 8,786, 300 people are registered as voters for the August 13 vote. The rallies which President Hichilema has addressed so far are as follows: On July 1, President Hichilema held rallies in Mwinilunga and Solwezi, North-Western Province. On July 2, he went to Chavuma, Zambezi, Kabompo and Kalumbila districts of North-Western Province. On July 3, he was in Nkeyema, Luampa, Kaoma and Lukulu, Western Province. On July 4, the President campaigned in Mitete, Sikongo, Kalabo and Mongu districts of Western Province.President Hichilema addressed rallies in Chitambo, Serenje and Mkushi districts of Central Province on July 5,” State House stated.
State House indicated that the President also covered Kapiri Mposhi, Kabwe and Chibombo on July 6 before moving to the Copperbelt, where he campaigned in Masaiti, Mpongwe and Kitwe on July 7 and Chililabombwe, Chingola and Ndola on July 8.
“On July 6, he went to Kapiri Mposhi, Kabwe and Chibombo districts – still in Central Province. On July 7, the President took his campaign message to Masaiti (Kafulafuta), Mpongwe and Kitwe, Copperbelt Province. On July 8, he was in Chililabombwe, Chingola and Ndola districts on the Copperbelt Province. On July 9, President Hichilema went to Chama, Chasefu, Lundazi and Lumezi districts of Eastern Province. On July 10, the head of State addressed rallies in Nyimba, Petauke, Lusangazi and Sinda districts in Eastern Province. On July 11, the President had rallies in Luangwa, Rufunsa and Chongwe districts of Lusaka Province. Shantumbu area (Kafue district), Chilanga and Kafue town rallies – all in Lusaka Province – were held on July 12. On July 14, President Hichilema addressed rallies in Lavushimanda, Mpika, Kanchibiya and Shiwang’andu districts of Muchinga province. On July 15, he went to Nakonde, Mafinga, Isoka and Chinsali districts – still in Muchinga Province,” the statement read.
“On July 16, the head of State campaigned in Chilubi, Kaputa, Nsama and Mporokoso in Northern Province. On July 17, he was in Mpulungu, Mbala, Mungwi and Kasama districts of Northern Province. On July 18, he went to Chienge, Nchelenge, Kawambwa and Mwense districts of Luapula Province. On July 19, President Hichilema campaigned in Lunga, Chifunabuli, Samfya and Mansa districts in Luapula Province. On July 21, he addressed a rally in Chisamba district, after officially opening the Chisamba Solar Power plant”.
In Southern Province, he addressed rallies in Chirundu, Siavonga, Chikankata and Mazabuka, followed by Itezhi-Tezhi, Namwala, Monze and Choma on July 24.
“On July 22, President Hichilema addressed a rally at John Chinena area in Chibombo, Central Province. This was after inspecting construction works on the Lusaka – Ndola dual carriageway. On July 23, President Hichilema had campaign rallies in Chirundu, Siavonga, Chikankata and Mazabuka districts of Southern Province. On July 24, President Hichilema went into Itezhi tezhi, Namwala, Monze and Choma districts in Southern Province. He also had rallies in Pemba, Gwembe, Sinazongwe and Zimba districts of Southern Province on July 26. On July 27, the President addressed rallies in Kalomo, Kazungula and Livingstone districts of Southern Province. On July 28, President Hichilema went to Luano (Masansa), Kapiri Mposhi (Mpunde), Ngabwe (Mumbachala) and Chisamba (Mwomboshi) districts in Central Province,” State House stated.
“The President campaigned in Chibombo (Katuba), Shibuyunji, Mumbwa (Nangoma) and Mumbwa (town) districts on July 29. On July 30, he addressed rallies in Mulobezi, Mwandi, Sesheke and Sioma districts in Western Province. On July 31, President Hichilema campaigned in Shangombo, Nalolo, Limulunga and Senanga – still in Western Province”.
State House Media highlighted that on August 1, the President also addressed University of Zambia students at State House.
“On August 1, President Hichilema addressed thousands of University of Zambia (UNZA) students on the grounds of State House. On August 2, the President had rallies in Katete, Chadiza, Vubwi and Chipata districts in Eastern Province. On August 3, he went to Kasenengwa, Chipangali and Mambwe districts districts in Eastern Province. On August 4, President Hichilema campaigned in Mufulira, Lufwanyama, Kalulushi and Chambishi Constituency (Kalulushi district) on the Copperbelt. On August 5, he addressed rallies in Masaiti, Luanshya and Ndola districts, Copperbelt Province. On August 6, President Hichilema was in the North-Western Province districts of Mushindamo, Manyinga and Kalumbila,” read the statement.
“On August 7, he campaigned in Ikeleng’i, Mufumbwe and Kasempa – North-Western Province. On August 8, President Hichilema addressed rallies in Lupososhi, Luwingu, Lunte and Senga Hill districts in Northern Province. On August 9, he went to Milenge, Chembe, Chipili and Mwansabombwe districts in Luapula Province”.
