THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has so far announced results from 49 of the 226 constituencies.

From the results announced so far, President Hakainde Hichilema has established a significant lead, polling 438,708 against his closest rival Brian Mundubile who has polled 351,281.

President Hichilema is leading in the aggregate count by 87,427 votes, despite winning in 20 of the 49 constituencies announced by the Commission, nine less than Mundubile.

In what is considered his strongholds like Southern Province, President Hichilema has collected 155,943 votes against Mundubile’s 1,563 votes, giving the President an advantage of 154,380 votes.

President Hichilema has put up a strong performance in the two North Western constituencies announced, and has also performed strongly in Central Province where he has won four of the five constituencies and leads 49,834 to 24,013.

On the other hand Mundubile is leading in Luapula, Eastern, Northern, Muchinga and Copperbelt with a not so large margin compared to the margins with which President Hichilema is winning his strongest constituencies.

Mundubile he has won all 10 constituencies supplied, accumulating 91,019 against HH’s 46,014. Eastern is also strong for Mundubile, where he leads 88,188 to 57,204 and has won seven of the 10 constituencies announced.

In terms of biggest individual margins in the constituencies announced so far, President Hichilema’s biggest advantage is Chikankanta, where he polled 38,739 against Mundubile’s 475, a margin of 38,264. This is followed by Sinazongwe, where the President’s margin is 28,716, Kalomo South at 23,719, Monze East at 22,094, and Dundumwezi at 21,997.

Mundubile’s biggest margins in the results announced include Kasama Central, where he leads by 12,510, Chinsali Central by 11,620, Chipata North by 9,173, and Chifunabuli North by 7,842.

Other constituencies like Luano Constituency, have been close where President Hichilema polled 7,084 against Mundubile’s 6,893, a difference of only 191 votes. Mafinga North is also extremely tight, with Mundubile on 7,489 against HH’s 7,180, a margin of just 309 votes.

The Commission is set to announce the first set of today’s results at 11:00 hours.
