IT IS not an abuse of the law when Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe says the government is pondering a move to suspend paying retirement benefits to former president Edgar Lungu following his declaration that he is still in active politics. Last week Mr Lungu said although he was not in political leadership, he was still politically active and capable of “influencing certain things”, a statement that left the government and citizens at large in limbo as it lacked clarity in terms of context. Did he mean that he can still influence party activities in the Patriotic Front? Did he mean that he can still control the State apparatus? Was he trying to say that he has the power to influence...
