TODAY, those of Christian faith celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But as a Christian nation, what do we have to learn from this special Christian calendar date? First of all, we must appreciate that resurrection does not erase suffering: it teaches us to live in a world torn by injustice. It gives us hope that God is present in the ugliest violence of human life, and that God engages human history to create meaning on the other side of tragedy and injustice. The crucifixion of Jesus was not a unique event thousands of years ago. Let’s not look at it from that historic perspective. Let’s come to terms with the fact that crosses are erected even today in communities...
