THE death of Mr Mutotwe Kafwaya following the security operation connected to premises associated with opposition leader Brian Mundubile is, by every account, a deeply sad development. Whatever political disagreements existed, whatever intelligence the State may have gathered and whatever allegations may eventually be proved, one fact cannot be wished away: a life has been lost. No one deserves to die over politics. This is why we believe the matter has now gone beyond ordinary police statements and political explanations. The public deserves a public inquiry into what happened, how it happened, what intelligence informed the operation and proof that the use of lethal force was unavoidable.
