Geoffrey Luanja has emerged triumphant at the 2023 Mdina Lusaka Open Chess Championship after outwitting Fide Master (FM) Nase Lungu in the final round at NIPA yesterday. Luanja went into the final round half a point behind the pair of International Master (IM) Gillan Bwalya and FM Douglas Munenga who jointly led the tournament with a round to close. The two players with an identical record of six wins and two draws were top of the standings with sevens points apiece, going into the final round where they faced off and drew, allowing Luanja to overtake them both in the standings and win the top prize.
