The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested a Bolivian national for trafficking is 2.1kg of cocaine wrapped in condoms and concealed in fifty five roll on bottles.
And former boxer Joseph Chingangu has also been arrested for trafficking in cannabis.
Meanwhile, the DEC in Central Province has arrested 11 people for unlawful cultivation and trafficking of cannabis.
According to a statement released by DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo yesterday, the 27-year-old Bolivian national was intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
“The suspect identified as Veizaga Arias Steven, 27, was intercepted at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport upon arrival from Rio de Janeiro via Angola abroad an Angolan Airlines flight,” Katongo stated.
She stated that Chingangu and others were arrested for drug related offenses.
“And the commission has also arrested four people for various drug related offences in an operation conducted in Lusaka’s Chibolya Township. Those arrested include Joseph Chingangu, 52, of Chilenje Township for trsfficking in cannabis and Brian Kapuluta, 29, a carpenter of Chibolya Township for trafficking in seven sachets of cocaine and heroin. Others arrested for trafficking in loose cannabis are Brian Kapisha, 24, of Zingalume Township and John Daka, 24, a business man of Chipata compound,” Katongo stated.
Meanwhile, the Commission in Central Province arrested 11 people for unlawful cultivation and trafficking of cannabis.
“Among those arrested are Peter Musonda, 55, a small scale farmer of Chikwasha village for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 207.13kg and Bupe Phiri, 44, of Chikubula Village for unlawful cultivation of 103.7kg of fresh cannabis plants. Others are Morgan Chembe, 50, for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 39.73kg, Micheal Mumba, 38, for trafficking in 39.61kg of loose cannabis and Momed Kunda, 40, for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 13.38kg. All suspects will appear in court soon,” stated Katongo.
