Zambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the South African government to promote collaboration in investment and exchange programs relating to; agriculture, livestock and fisheries, forestry, tourism and mining.

South Africa’s NorthWest Premier, Supra Mahumapelo signed on behalf of his country while Luapula Province Minister Nixon Chilangwa signed on behalf of the Zambian government during his four day visit to the NorthWest Province with permanent Secretary Dr Buleti Nsemukila.

First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa Naomi Nyawali, said in a statement yesterday that the MOU would promote collaboration in investment and exchange programs.

And Nyawali stated that the Northwest Premier expressed gratitude over the relationship that his province had created Luapula Province of Zambia.

“The two provincial Ministers are eager to explore possibilities of improving and diversifying bilateral relationships in; agriculture, tourism and other areas of mutual interest. They are determined to foster relationships at provincial level, that would result in intensified cooperation through implementation of programs, projects and joint actions which are beneficial to the residents of respective provinces. The mechanisms on cooperation include, the reinforcement of bilateral trade, promotion of investments in economies of the two provinces, economic and tourism cooperation, training and skills transfer, and technology among others,” stated Nyawali.

“The Premier said his team was impressed with the resource endowment of Luapula when they visited the province during the Luapula Expo. And he reiterated the historical strong bonds that exist between the two countries that they share, including political, bilateral, historical, cultural and economic ties. The Premier said that he was looking forward to visiting Luapula Province very soon. Meanwhile, Hon Chilangwa and his team are in NorthWest province on a reciprocal visit and to twin the two provinces.”
