11 people have died whilst 59 others were seriously injured in different road traffic accidents recorded across the country during the just ended holiday.
In a statement, police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo gave an account on accidents which were recorded.
“During this years International Womens Day and youth day Holiday, a period from 08th to 12th March, 2018 a total number of 203 Road Traffic Accidents were recorded across the country out of which 11 were fatal Road Traffic Accidents in which 11 people died.
16 were serious Road Traffic Accidents in which 59 persons were seriously injured and 46 were slight Road Traffic Accidents in which 55 persons were slightly injured. 130 were damages only accidents,” stated Katongo.
“Lusaka Province recorded 88 Road Traffic Accidents, Copperbelt had 36, Central had 18, Southern, 15, North Western had 13 ,Eastern 12, while the rest of the provinces recorded between four (04) and seven (07) Road Traffic Accidents with Kenneth Kaunda International Airport recording one (01). Meanwhile, as regards to crime, the Country was generally peaceful. However, 50 cases of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm were recorded, 24 theft cases while six (06) were Burglary and Theft cases.”
