DPP Gilbert Phiri says the forfeiture to the state of gold worth K58 million and $200,000 in cash belonging to two Chinese nationals is a significant step in Zambia’s commitment to addressing financial crimes. On Monday, the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court convicted and sentenced a Chinese couple to a fine of K100,000 each for conveying stolen property. The court also forfeited to the state 40 pieces of gold weighing 29.92 kilograms, valued at about K58 million, a Toyota Prado and US$200,000 belonging to the couple, Zhao Changsong, 58, and Zhao Yangjin, 45.
