Inflation rises to 15.6% as country records K0.6b trade deficit in August

THE Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has disclosed that the annual inflation for September 2024 has increased to 15.6 percent from the 15.5 percent recorded in August 2024. ZamStats Statistician General Goodson Sinyenga has revealed that the country recorded a trade deficit of K0.6 billion in August 2024 compared to the surplus of K1.4 billion recorded in July 2024. At a media briefing, Thursday, Sinyenga attributed the rise in inflation to price movements of food items. “Annual inflation for September 2024 increased to 15.6 percent from 15.5 percent recorded in August, 2024.
