Police on the Copperbelt have arrested 10 Chinese nationals all from Bolo Mine, in connection with the shooting of a teenager.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed and named the teenager as John Mumba 16.
According to Katanga, the ten Chinese nationals arrested are being held so that the victim can identify the shooter.
The 16 year old boy was shot on Thursday after he was found collecting fire wood within Bolo Mine area.
“They were arrested yesterday (Thursday) in the evening for grievous bodily harm, where one of the persons who stays near the Bolo Mine in Chambishi was shot at when he went to fetch fire wood. After that police visited the mine, the victim was taken to the hospital were he was hospitalised at Kitwe Teaching Hospital. Right now as we speak he is admitted. The suspects were arrested so that the victim can identify who shot at him,” Katanga said.
She said after investigations, the suspect will be charged for causing grievous bodily harm.
And there was a near riot by the residents of Chambishi this morning, Saturday following rumors that the Chinese nationals have being released from custody.
The residents gathered and wanted to start burning tires but a quick action from the police prevented the protest.
