THE Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) has attributed the Kwacha’s appreciation to the prevailing weak US dollar, tax inflows, among other macroeconomic factors. As at yesterday, the Kwacha was trading around K23 to the US dollar. In a statement, Tuesday, EAZ president Dr Oswald Mungule explained that a strong agricultural performance had enhanced rural incomes, reduced food imports and increased export earnings. “Zambia is currently experiencing a favourable macroeconomic environment supported by a combination of domestic and external factors. Tax inflows are strengthening the government’s fiscal position, enhancing liquidity and supporting the implementation of national development programmes.
