POLICE say an officer discharged a tear smoke canister to disperse University of Zambia (UNZA) students who were throwing stones at some officers keeping vigil at the institution after they were escorted back to campus following a celebration of the student union election. Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga says after the elections, students took to the Great East Road to celebrate, with intentions to defy police orders by proceeding to Ridgeway Campus to offer solidarity to their colleagues who had also held similar elections.
