The UPND has clocked five years in power and the hour of accountability has returned. Zambians are once again being asked to evaluate a government they elected with overwhelming hope, anger against the past, and expectation for a different style of leadership. But as campaigns gather momentum ahead of the August elections, one weakness is becoming clear: contenders are speaking loudly, but in many instances, they are speaking in a vacuum. As we stated yesterday, those seeking office must produce manifestos. They must reduce their campaign messages into clear policy documents so that citizens can compare one vision against another. The people need a contest of ideas, not a contest of accusations. They need to know what the UPND says...
