FOMER justice minister Princess Kasune says the opposition should stop misinforming Zambians about the cyber laws.

Meanwhile, Kasune says President Hakainde Hichilema will get six million votes in the August polls.

Responding to NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile’s statement that the Cyber Security Act must be revoked as it has oppressed Zambians from speaking freely, Kasune said Mundubile’s reasoning was irrelevant.

“You don’t know that cyber law is there to protect the innocent people. We have to remember that in every society there is the user or the friendly user, the obedient user, and there’s also the one who goes against the laws or someone else’s rights. And that is where cyber law is. Look at the people who are using inflammatory remarks, insults, which was never there. Maybe it was there, but we couldn’t hear them, you understand? But now today someone will stand up and insult you, literally. Someone can say anything. You can use that law to sue them. First of all, any law does not go against someone who’s innocent. Unless you are misusing the law, so they should stop misinforming Zambians. Let them campaign on things they understand,” she said.

“So this law is there to protect the Zambian people. And the reality of this world we are in, the social media, should I say, the cyber world has become more complicated. And you are going to need laws to protect yourselves as individuals, but also to protect the sovereignty of the nations. This is where you’re going. If I told you how many people have created my fake account, what do you do? And it’s complicated even to find them, but you try. That’s why the government is there. So they are talking is not relevant”.

She said government took considerations into account before enacting the law.

“There was a lot of back and forth. Your concerns were raised and your government, your listening government, your President took those into consideration. But the world we are going in, you need even cyber security yourself as an individual. So now imagine as a nation, if you leave this cyber world we are in unchecked, there are consequences. In every situation, if you abide within the law, there shouldn’t be anything to come and haunt you. But if I start to abuse someone else’s freedom, someone else’s right, then there has to be a law. And that is where your Minister of Justice comes in. That is where your government comes in,” she said.

Meanwhile, Kasune said President Hichilema would get six million votes in the August election.

“It is important that you people who are in the media, you carry both sides of the story so that Zambians know. But at the end of the day, Zambians have made their decision. They are voting for UPND because UPND has delivered things that they have never delivered. And that is why I’m 100 per cent sure, especially for Kaembe West, it’s 100 percent. Central Province, I am speculating a 90 percent all UPND. And then for Zambia, for me, I’m saying six million votes. He has loved this country. He cares about this nation. He has delivered, he has brought law and order, there is more to be done and that is why he needs to come back,” said Kasune.
