THE National Association for Small-holder Farmers (NASFA) has called for reduction of interest rates on credit facilities for farmers from over 10 percent to five percent. Interest rates on loan facilities for small holder farmers under the Sustainable Agriculture Financing (SAF) currently stand at about 12 percent. In an interview, Wednesday, NASFA Executive Director Professor Frank Kayula lamented that banks were offering high interest rates to small holder farmers. “We can’t allow the agricultural sector, which is fragile at the moment, to be paying interest above 10 percent.
