THE National Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) has announced an outbreak of suspected anthrax in Muchinga Province. DRMD Senior Communications Officer Mathews Musukwa said 40 animals have reportedly died, while 11 people are suspected to have been affected in Mpika, Lavushimanda and Shiwang’andu districts. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, anthrax is a serious disease usually caused by Bacillus anthracis bacteria, found naturally in soil around the world and often affect livestock and wild animals.
