FORMER vice-president Nevers Mumba has retired from active partisan politics and resigned as president of the New Nation Party (NNP), bringing an end to his 29-year political career. Mumba says his decision is informed by his desire to serve the country in a different capacity, stating that he is ready to be a statesman. Mumba served as vice-president in the MMD government under late president Levy Mwanawasa. In 2012, Mumba became the president of the MMD after defeating Felix Mutati. The MMD later joined the UPND Alliance in 2024. In November last year, Mumba changed the name of the party from MMD to New Nation Party.
